Braces in Lees Summit, MO

Whether you’re dealing with serious alignment issues or just want a straighter, more beautiful smile, braces can gradually shift your teeth for the confidence boost you've been dreaming of.

DID YOU KNOW?

More than half of all Americans feel self-conscious about their teeth. If you’re one of them, braces can help you get the smile you’ve always wanted.

Why Should I Choose Braces?

Straight teeth are more than just beautiful. Not only does a straight smile make you feel more confident, but it also helps protect your oral health. Crooked teeth can contribute to oral health issues, such as a higher risk of cavities, premature wear and tear, a higher risk of TMJ/TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder), and more. Braces are a time-tested, cost-effective way to straighten your teeth, improve your bite, and enhance both your appearance and your oral health.

The Benefits of Braces

Affordable Treatment

In some cases, braces can be the most cost-effective way to straighten your teeth and improve your bite. They also are covered by some dental insurance plans, especially for children under the age of 18.

Extremely Versatile

Depending on the individual case, braces can be more versatile and powerful than alternative options. With the right treatment plan, an experienced orthodontist can correct almost any issue with your teeth and bite.

Prevents Further Oral Health Problems

Misaligned or crooked teeth are harder to clean, which can raise the risk of gum disease or tooth decay. They also may wear down more quickly, and could be more prone to chipping, cracking, or breaking. Misaligned teeth can contribute to problems like tooth grinding and TMJ/TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder). With braces, you can treat and prevent these problems.

The Braces Treatment Process

Orthodontic Consultation & Braces Placement

To begin your treatment, you’ll come to our office for a complimentary orthodontic consultation, which includes photos, x-rays, and a 3D scan of your teeth, and Dr. Jewell will discuss all of your options for treatment. If she determines that braces are the best option for you, you’ll come back in a few weeks to have your braces placed. We also offer same-day starts for patients who qualify! Placing your braces is a completely non-invasive procedure that takes 1-2 hours.

Adjustments & Checkups

Once your braces are attached to your teeth, you’ll need to come back into our office for an adjustment. These are usually done about every 8 weeks and take about half an hour. During this appointment, Dr. Jewell will check on your progress, then tighten your braces to make sure your teeth keep moving toward the proper position.

Braces Removal & Retainers

Most patients wear braces for about 24 months. Once your treatment is over, Dr. Jewell will remove your braces. A 3D scan of your teeth will be taken in order for your custom printed retainers to be made. Retainers help your teeth maintain the proper position after your braces are removed. You’ll wear these at nighttime for a lifetime to make sure your teeth don’t move back to their original position.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do braces work?

Braces work by applying gradual pressure on the teeth, slowly moving them into the desired alignment. The jaw bone adapts as the braces apply pressure over time, which allows the teeth and their roots to adjust. While all cases are unique, it can take anywhere from six months to two years to correct your smile with braces.

What are the benefits of traditional metal braces?

As a tried and true method, braces are one of the most reliable ways to straighten teeth. Individuals dealing with minor to severe orthodontic issues can benefit from their effectiveness. Unlike clear aligners, you don’t have to worry about removing or losing your braces, setting your smile up for success. This is particularly useful for younger children or those who simply want a hassle-free solution to removable clear aligners.

How do you care for your braces?

Caring for your braces is similar to regular oral healthcare, only it will take extra time. Make sure to use a soft-bristled brush to keep your gum tissue, teeth, brackets, and wires clean and free from debris. Dr. Jewell will give you a take home kit at your first appointment full of accesories to help you achieve top notch oral hygiene. Don’t forget to floss! One of Dr. Jewell's favorite flosses, Cocofloss, will be a vital part of your daily oral hygiene routine. Dr. Jewell and her team will thoroughly evaluate oral hygiene at each appointment and help guide you with any problem areas.

Am I a good candidate for braces?

Metal braces are an excellent solution to a number of orthodontic issues. If your teeth are crowded, overlapped, gapped, or crooked, metal braces can restore your smile and shift your teeth back where they belong. Patients struggling with an overbite, crossbite, overjet, or open bite may also be great candidates for metal braces. However, there are some cases that respond better to the mechanics of clear aligners. Dr. Jewell with review your records to create a personalized plan in order to reach your treatment goals.

How much do braces cost?

The cost of metal braces is different for each patient. Factors that may affect the cost of your metal braces include the severity of your teeth misalignment, appointment and visits, insurance type, and more. The best way to find out how much you’ll pay for metal braces is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Jewell for a personalized plan.
